Interior Design : Library the Heart of the House
From my perspective a house like this a a real piece of art, and I know that to get a design like this for your house it might cost you a fortune, but when you look at the final result you forget about the money. Now the owners of this house wanted that the library to be the heart of the house, and José Solís Betancourt, the interior designer who renovated this D.C. retreat made their dream come true. Mid Century Roundup: Paul McCobb Planner Group Bench and Cabinet
Paul McCobb's works have always fascinated me when it comes to mid century modern furniture. A few months back, I featured a pair of minimalist nightstands that had been crafted by the modern master. Here is the Planner Group bench and cabinet which combine seating and storage in a single furniture piece. The two drawers are not just decorative, and function on aluminum pulls. The bench is constructed in maple over dowel legs. The bench was produced by Winchendon and measures 18.25" x 48" x 31.5". This great piece would be a wonderful find in a resale shop or store featuring mid century finds.
Breuer's Wassily Chair : A Classic for all Occasions
Having made it all the way from the early days of the modern furniture movement, the Wassily chair designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 has surly graced just about every setting possible. Here is the mid-century classic in a mach up of the VERDIER solar powered light caravan that some of us may recognize as the VW bus gone hi-tech. If you are going to decorate in timeless furniture the Wassily chair is a staple that ap parently works well as outdoor patio furniture. Two things that are sure to be popular in the future, alternate power sources and classic modern furniture.
Gel Filled Kitchen Floor Mats Relieve Back and Feet Discomfort
Standing on tile or hardwood floors for an extended period of time can create discomfort in your back or your feet. Furniture from Weapons - A Peaceful Use of Weapons
Furniture from weapons is a project started after more than 30 years of civil war, ending in 1998, the Cambodian gouvernment destroyed 125,000 weapons across the country. In this time a small arms specialist with the European Union, and British artist Sasha Constable, saw an opportunity, and decided to create The Peace Art Project Cambodia (PAPC) in November 2003. The Peace Art Project Cambodia was a sculpture project turning weapons into art as expressions of peace. In Cambodia this is the most beautiful way to get rid of weapons - transform them in furniture. From these pictures this furniture doesn’t look to comfortable, but for a good cause they are excelent.
Sunken Sofas and Chairs by Ross Didier
From Ross Didier comes the Obelisk sofa and chairs featuring a design that is very cubistic and angular. My first impression was that the furniture pieces were "sunken" as I was taken in by the odd angle upon which they sit. This design is certainly very futuristic and will take a bit of getting use to for our eyes. I have not had a chance to sit in the Obelisk and would like to so I can examine the comfort level. Great Small House/Apartment Entrance Idea
While I was checking my RSS reader today I’ve found this interesting idea for a small house entrance on Swissmiss. I love the idea, and I think that I’m going to implement it in my small apartment, especially how the shoes are stored is a great space saver. The materials used are ash and plain steel. The ash has been bleached and then custom finished.
Nirvana Chair
The Nirvana Chair is far more than a simple sculptural statement, is a piece of steel furniture that follow the natural shape of the reclining body. The presence of this piece of furniture in any room will change the mood and embellish it with a strong sense of sophistication and style. The concept of form creating function becomes ap parent when one is seated: this is an experience blending the impression of security with freedom.
