When the Western Can Met the Eastern Cup

Designed by Xue Lei as the western crushed can that met the eastern tea cup, meet Tea! The porcelain cups are shaped in the form of crushed cans and have taken the exact same features of a coke tin that you would find in the bin. Yet, the porcelain and the art work on the cups are very oriental in their nature depicting great dragons and warriors. If you are looking for an odd yet interesting between cultures designs, then the crushed can-cups are arguably the best you will find. Not sure if we’ll ever drink tea from these things, but we’re sold with the looks.

polder sofatags: livingroom

HELLA JONGERIUS’ Polder Sofa is a metaphor for Holland’s low-lying, dyke-reclaimed land. Like the aerially-visible patchwork of farms and crops (source: Inhabitat), Polder is a pastiche of colors and textures, similarly low-lying and just as flat. Five carefully selected d furniturebinations are available, all of which are studded with large buttons made from materials such as bone and mother of pearl and held in place with bold cross-stitching. $7,590-$9,920, d furniture Via: Uncrate Popularity: 3% [?]

tripping the white fantastictags: bedroom, livingroom

Although colorful/patterned decor is all the rage these days, light colored furniture still continues to occupy a hallowed niche in contemporary furnishings. Above: the plasticky/mod Orbit dining set is appropriately named, as it instantly brings back memories of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The playfully rounded chairs in particular are infused with the optimism of the 1960s; chromed steel lends the entire group a hint of sophistication. The use of white furniture in a Living Room is simultaneously the most rewarding and most controversial. Placing such furnishings (which often attract scuffs and stains like moths to a flame) in a high visibility setting is best reserved for those of us with a mean clean streak. All things considered, the arrangement above makes a compelling argument: sleek, rounded cocktail and end tables flank a minimalist splitback sleeper sofa. A white vinyl upholstered chaise ups the style equation a notch while a bubbly TV stand with chrome trumpet base complements the other tables in the room. The Jazz series is a fairly elementary storage solution for with a bit of mod style. The display cabinet features an alternating grid of square cubbies with five sliding doors which are removable if you want to maximize display space, while the low-slung buffet table includes four smaller cubbies hidden behind two sliding doors. What really sets Jazz apart are the quartet of triangular legs which splay apart in a cartoon-like fashion; overall, a nice mix of utility and fun for cool cats all around. For pure simplicity, it’s difficult to beat the Solo bedroom group: aluminum features are the only real flourishes on an otherwise very simple and square template. Definitely a set for minimalists, Solo is perhaps most at home in a loft setting; the elegant platform bed and cosmopolitan dresser and nightstand are perfectly matched with concrete floors, New York-style brick walls and exposed columns and ductwork. All of this and more are available at Eurway. Popularity: 6% [?]

Huit Sofa - Figure 8 Shaped Sofa

The Huit Sofa is a concept piece of furniture designed by Emanuel Laffon de Mazieres, a young french designer. As you can see the Huit sofa is a really unusual sofa designed in 8 or infinite sign shape. The continuous curve flows in a figure 8 so depending on your position, your point of view is never the same. The design of this sofa is simple and modern. The curve also flows at different heights creating a cascading effect and a wall that provides one end privacy from the other. I don’t see a sofa like this in every home, but I think this sofa would be great for a party. - Via - Yankodesign & Chairblog

Toilet Seats Inspired by Guitars

These toilet seats might look like a joke, but there is no joke, they are real products, and you can actually buy one. I don’t know who want a toilet seat shaped like a guitar, but who knows maybe there are people who want to buy this product. And as a bonus this toliet seat looks quite nice and stylish if we look at it as a design. You can buy one of these from here. - Via - Coolbuzz

George3 Console Table by Gareth Neal

The George3 console table is designed by Gareth Neal, and is a piece of furniture that is quite unique, and can very easily catch your eye. In the same style we presented last year another interesting table by Gareth Neal. The only problem I can see is there will be dust to collect in those small spaces, and it could be difficult to take it away.

New Home Sales Fell by 26% in 2007

Sales of new homes plunged by a record amount in 2007 while prices posted the weakest showing in 16 years, demonstrating the troubles builders are facing with a huge backlog of unsold homes. Purchases of new homes fell 4.7% just in December 2007 to a 12-year low, the U.S. Commerce Department reported Monday, in a statement (pdf). The number of new homes sold in 2007 sank 26.4% to 774,000, which beat the revious record fall of 23.1% set in 1980. The median price of a new home last year was almost the same level as in 2006, up only 0.2% at $246,900. Many analysts have predicted that prices will continue to fall in 2008 as builders struggle to sell a glut of new properties. Finnaly I know that here on Freshome we focus more on inspiration, but this post might be thoughtful information for US interior designers. - Via - Yahoo

gisele armchairtags: livingroom, outdoors

IT’S NO ACCIDENT that Gisele sounds a bit like “gazelle”; this handcrafted Brazilian armchair has graceful, swept back lines that resemble both the form and movement of its antelope counterpart. We particularly like the natural cotton rope back, which is both elastic yet retains its shape and allows for ventilation. Made from a small factory in Brazil, Gisele is made from sustainably harvested hardwood with an eco-friendly water-based finish. $950, d furniture Popularity: 12% [?]

Halo Ultraviolet Vacumm Help You Clean and Kill Unseen Parasites

Some time ago I’ve read an interesting post entitled “What Everyone Ought to Know About Parasites”, and I’ve found some interesting stuff about these microscopic guys. I knew that they are not visibile to the naked eye, and they can be dangerous. Today I’ve found a solution that seems to help us keep these microscopic guys away. The Halo™ UVX Ultraviolet Vacuum the only vacuum that cleans what you see, kills what you can’t, all without the use of nasty chemicals. It seems to be an effective way to kill unseen and unwanted pests without the use of chemicals is germicidal ultraviolet, or UV-C, light. For spring cleaning this vacuum can help you keep your home clean for just $399.99. I say that this is quite a small price for your health.
