SG Blocks Container House - Made of Shipping Containers
The largest conference and expo on green innovation, West Coast Green, just started off yesterday and we already have the scoop with a great house dedicated to those who really care about the envinronment (I’m one of them, you?). It’s the SG Beverly Hills: Block / Leather Sofa Setss Container House designed by the Lawrence Group that was built up usng five recycled shipping containers, uses solar power and can recycle rainwater.
Other than all these it also uses an Agilewaves resource monitoring system which is a web-based application that actively monitors real-time electric, gas and water usage and then calculates the carbon footprint. But the SG Beverly Hills: Block / Leather Sofa Setss container house is not only highly sustainable but can also withstand hurricanes in Florida and earthquakes in California, thanks to its durable steel envelope. Just for the record … it took them 1 month to do the prefab and only 4 hours and 47 minutes to install it at the expo. - via Inhabitat

“Igloo of Books”
We talk a lot here on Freshome about bedrooms, and bookcases. Today Point Architects from Tokyo combined a bed with a bookcase and the result was called the Uroko House. The incredible bookcase completely surrounds this bed, making him looks like an igloo made of books. Here is the step by step project of how the Uroko House was created, and I’ve got these pictures from Flickr. The final results looks good, but unfortunately is not to practical, and takes a lot of space. Anyway I’m sure that little kids will still love this project.
The Bespoke Silk Scarf Chair by Suzan Fellman makes a Fashion Statement
When I saw the Bespoke Silk Scarf Chair the first thing that came to mind was the fashion industry. How could you not think of that with the stunning colors and words like "Chanel" prominently appearing on the upholstery? The abstract image on the seat back reminds me of the colors in a Joan Miro painting. The interesting feature is how the abstr action works in conjunction with the major brand logos. Folding Screen Chairs - Biombo
Daniel Milchtein Peltsverger is a genius. Anyone who lives in a small space will surely appreciate his Biombo folding screen chairs. He has basically invented a novel kind of combination furniture no one has done before. The Biombo can be used as a screen, either decoratively or as a room divider most of the time. But when company calls, they can be folded down to become extra chairs.
The Biombo is wooden with the screen portion hinged. The front decorated portion of the screen concertinas down to form the chair. The screen frame still has a backing for back support. One question that remains is how much weight can the chair handle as it looks quite lightweight. - Via

ITS OKAY TO STEAL CANDY FROM A BABY, at least when nursery furniture looks this good. For starters, the rounded frame is finished to a stunning shine with five coats of primer and lacquer; throw in other extras such as solid bamboo doors, precision drawer glides and stainless steel legs on the d furnitures, and it d furniturees simply criminal for adults not to requisition a piece (or two) for their own uses.

Amazon Kindle - The "Going Green" Gadget for Saving Trees
The Amazon Kindle first made a splash last year when it sold out at Christmas time and was hard to find. Since then the Kindle has continued to grow a great reputation in the market. Looking at Amazon today, there is an amazing 3,601 reviews on this product. That is just a staggering number for any product. The reviews average 4 out of 5 stars which again is no small feat.
I felt obliged to write a story on this gadget after conducting my own in formal "straw poll" last week. I asked 10 of my friends and family if they had heard of this product. Only 1 of the 10 had said they heard of the product, but he really did not know much about how it works.
The Kindle is a wireless device where newspapers, magazines, and books can be downloaded into it to be read by the user. Now, when I made this statement to the 10 people I polled, the lights did not go off in their head right away. I must admit it took me awhile to consider the amount of paper I could save by not having a newspaper delivered each day to my home. Frankly, I do not read the entire paper. It pains me to put it in the recycle bin each day after I am done reading. How much paper is one year's worth of newspaper? I know how heavy my bin gets, because I drop it off once a week. Over the course of the year, I could save a lot of trees.
